Many sites suffer from being a "Frankensite." You know the type, several webmasters, styles, programming languages and an ever-changing marketing focus. Time to clean up! Chances are 30% or more of your site code is redundant, confusing and just makes a mess. It also slows down your site speed for the visitors.
By cleaning out the old code and unifying your fonts and formatting, you will allow the visitors to focus on the content rather than being distracted by your hodge-podge of font styles. This is also a great opportunity to reorganize your site, clean out scary scripts from a decade ago and make sure all of your links work.
Just because you can change the fonts yourself, doesn't mean you should. Just stop. Focus on spelling correctly, grammar and writing exciting, concise copy that creates interest in your products and services.
Basic checklist:
Are all of your contact folks still working for you?
How are their photos? Do they look like Glamour Shots from 1995?
Are you linking to your clients' sites to show off your great work? Are they still your client? Make sure they are and that the site looks like your work.
Do you provide links to industry sites? Do they work?
Do you have Google Analytics in place? It's FREE. Add it in and you will learn more than you'll ever want to know about your website traffic.
Do you have private documents on your web server? Are they protected? Make sure that you don't have ANYTHING on the server that you don't want the world to find - unless you are sure it is locked down and protected.
How about that copyright date? Yes, on every page - is it updated? You look like a slacker company if you can't even get the copyright date current for your site.
